I happily updated to Mavericks the day it was released and I have a problem with the iLife and iWork apps.
I have the new and old versions installed at the same time.

Is it safe to just delete the old versions? How do I do it so that there is no trace of the old version?

Just to clarify, I currently have two versions of Pages, iMove, iPhoto and Garageband, which I am guessing is taking up some space that I could use.

I'm a fairly new Mac user, so when I saw this 'problem', I really got confused.
Thanks!

Yes, you can delete the apps/folder containing the apps. That is all you need to do.
It's not really a problem: this is how Apple has designed the installer.
