I don't know why some here are waiting for another update about some magical decision on "compromise." Annk has already given the answers some here were looking for and debating over and over (and over). There is no need for the staff to compromise (read: given in to demands of a few) when following the established rules (that AnnK posted) will mean that yearly threads get made how they are supposed to etc. There is no need to keep debating the same thing over and over. The policy is set.

Not to mention, since the thread has somewhat devolved in places, locking the thread.

As I7guy points out, this discussion has gone in a few circles, but we can clarify a few points. See the post by annk as well.

Pre-order threads can be started once the pre-order date is announced. That hasn't been much of an issue in the past, but now that it has we hope that we've made the policy clear.

The mods won't start pre-order threads since anyone can do so. It's regrettable that people might feel entitled to "own" such a thread or compete to start it, but there's no specific forum rule or moderation policy that applies.

There's no discipline involved when it comes to moderation policies. If a thread is posted too early, the thread is removed and the thread-starter is informed but not blamed.

Discussions about any non-pre-order aspects of an upcoming product are fine at any time. Once a pre-order date is announced, it's fine for there to be different pre-order threads for different countries (or, e.g., for Europe). That's up to the community. As always, the moderators will merge threads that are duplicates of each other, but pre-order threads for different countries wouldn't be considered duplicates. If there was also a general (non-country-specific) pre-order thread, then there would be some overlap in purpose, but users could decide where to post their comments.

The iPhone 14 pre-order threads that were started prematurely and removed by policy won't be restored since they were focused on pre-orders, but users are free to discuss upcoming iPhones in other existing or new threads. Remember not to claim that a thread is "official" (or words to that effect) since that could confuse people.

We recommend that threads stick to one aspect of an upcoming product, such as specific rumored features, opinions about the product's price or value, and eventually pre-ordering, shipment tracking, unboxing, reactions, etc. Some of these topics can be discussed in a corresponding news thread, of course. The problem with catch-all threads is that if they try to cover every aspect, they tend to produce confusing discussions. Because their scope is too wide, users have to wade through posts to find the subset about the aspect they are interested in. This isn't a forum rule, but you'll help the community by following this recommendation.

As always, please check for existing threads before starting a new, possibly duplicative thread. If you spot duplicate threads (or premature pre-order threads) then, as annk said, please report the thread. This is another way to help the forum community.

It was never about post counts, reaction scores, or who owns the biggest thread this year. If that was the case I would not have included the other 30+ members on my thread.
I find that very amusing coming from someone who in their signature highlighted that they were approaching 100,000 reactions when they were in the 80,000 range and is currently brightly highlighting that they are in excess of 101,000 reactions. Whatever turns you on

Along with practically posting in every other thread on this forum…

Did not know about the 5 min edit rule. If I edit, I usually edit pretty quickly and I've noticed that it doesn't always appear (but usually does more often than not). <shrug>.

Who cares if people are proud of their posts / likes. I like that my reaction score is almost 2k more than my posts. lol. Means someone likes them and hopefully helps them. I don't live off of them but I notice them and like them.

Hope we can all move on and keep things going.
