Thinkpad and Macbook are on opposite of the spectrum when it comes to cooling system effectiveness, durability, longevity, and serviceability.

Serviceability of ALL LAPTOP COMPUTERS is going to ****, and will continue to go to **** - regardless of brand. Apple is simply ahead of the curve.

But durability, cooling, longevity.. don't compare Thinkpads to Macbooks. Thinkpads are quite far ahead.

Ugly? Sure. Windows? Yes.

But infinitely more durable. Spill a gallon of water into a Macbook Pro and a Thinkpad. Drop a retina off a 9 foot tall ladder then drop a thinkpad off the same one.. have you? i have. Not intentionally. :( The thinkpad survives, the apple ides.

In a round-about way, you've hit it on the head. It's not really the O/S so much as it is the screen. I am spoiled by my iPhone display and my Kindle Fire HDX display, and I want the same on my computer. Windows 8 scaling is a mess, so that pretty much leaves OS X.

It's just that to have to live in fear of knocking a coffee cup over. That's a tough one for me. I might take the shot though, and just change my habits.

I have always used Thinkpads but after the last two being dude including the new W540, I move to a new 2013 15" Retina MBPro and am loving it. I got the 512 SSD and partitioned abotu 30% for OSX and the remaing for Win 7 Pro. It is fast, fast , FAST!

Lenovo and Thinkpads are not what the used to be. The 15" Macbook Pro screen to the best I have ever used. Wash your hands before use and keep liquids out of the MBook and it will last you many happy years!

I went with bootcamp as there was little reason to have both OS running at the same time. I have two iMacs also on bootcamp and they are hard to beat! They work very well with my iPhone and iPads.

Good Luck!:p

Going with the Mac

I received approval today for a Mac. I am pleased. I'll miss being able spill my coffee all across the keyboard :)D), but I think in all other possible ways that a Macbook will be a win.

Last time I used a Mac for work was when I owned a Powerbook in the early/mid 1990s. It'll be interesting to make that adjustment again, but in the reverse direction.

Expecting to be able to pour liquid on your laptop without damage is the most absurd thing I have ever heard.

And yet I can tell you that I have done it -- not on purpose of course, but it has happened a time or two.

I can vouch for Thinkpads and liquid. Odds are good you'll survive a spill of some tea or some coffee. The odds aren't 100%, but they are stacked in your favor.

And come on, who doesn't work sometimes with a coffee or a tea or a soda at their desk? It is possible to design a machine to boost the odds of surviving a spill without needing to go overboard and make it immersible.

That said, I did get the approval to go Mac for this next round :).
