I switched from an iPhone 17 Pro to a 17 Pro Max because the former had dust inside the front camera. I inspected the new iPhone 17 Pro Max very carefully—in sunlight and with a flashlight—and it was completely free of dust. I checked both the front and rear cameras and was finally happy.
After about three weeks, I noticed a tiny speck of dust inside one of the rear camera modules, visible in sunlight—I was sure it hadn’t been there before. A week later, I saw another small speck in a different camera, and again, I’m certain it wasn’t there earlier.
It doesn’t bother me too much since it’s in the rear cameras, but I’m wondering how it got there. Could the phone be slightly unsealed and draw in air from the outside, or were the particles hiding somewhere behind the lens cover or inside the module and just shifted over time?
