DVD burner failure?

My 2008 MP has the original burner in it and recently it refuses to burn the discs with an error message about 'insufficient power for the laser' or something similar. Is this a dirty lens on the laser or a defunct burner?

Probably toast- it is a common component that fails. You could try a blast of compressed air through it with the tray open as a last resort.

this, or just put the cost of the can of compressed air into a new burner 😉
