dvd burners / old macs

Hi. It sounds like idvd will work well with others. Therefore, since I don't have a superdrive I want to buy an external dvd burner. Which one should I consider?

Also, has anyone noticed the price of used macs? a g4 tower is going for about the same as the single processer g5 tower!!
