DVD Burning Error and Finder.plist

I'm having issues writing data to DVDs using my MacBook Pro superdrive. However, I can achieve a burn by deleting '/User/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist' every time I want to burn one. I shouldn't have to do this, anyone have a reason why?
