Whenever I run disk utility on my new alum macbook it makes the same noise that happens when you eject a dvd. I just got my macbook a month ago. Is this something I should be worried about?

Also, when I startup, I get the rainbow disc for about 20 seconds. I have no files on my desktop, and I still have 190 gb of my 250 gb on my harddrive empty. I ran Onyx yesterday to check my Smart status and it says its fine. This problem (the sound and the rainbow disc just started happening last week)

regarding question 1, mine does that too. I don't think it's something to worry about. It seems normal to me, but admittedly, that's just my opinion.

can't help you on your second question. sorry.

When you open Disk Utility it checks the dvd drive for a disk - that's the noise you are hearing. Nothing to worry about....

So how long does your machine take to start up ?

It's a fast startup. It's only after the startup, when my screen is all loaded, that the rainbow ball happens
