Hi Guys, I have just done a new install of OS X EI Capitan, I don't really know Apple but everything is fine except my DVD Drive I put a dvd or music CD in and nothing is happening is this likely to be the drive or is there something I'm doing wrong Please ??? settings or something I'm hoping, much appreciated.

Thanks
[doublepost=1468916417][/doublepost]Sorry it's an iMac 27" i5, 8 gig ram

Sounds like the DVD drive to me - I don't think you have to do anything special with the OS. Although you could look at the CDs and DVDs section of the preferences. I would try a different USB port first though.

The drive is built into the side of the iMac, it's internal, it reads a blank disc I get a small thing up asking me what I want to do with the disc but it's not reading movies or music odd.

2 different lasers to write and read. Pretty common to go bad, used ones on ebay are about 8-10 dollars. just replace it.

If the optical drive has gone south, you will find ifixit.com to be of tremendous use; a resource for parts as well as instructive disassembly.
