It's the same old story... when the technology was being developed there were certain companies adamant on using one format, and the rest were adamant on the other. Sorta similar as to when VHS and Beta tapes were coming out. Only difference is that both formats stuck around. Most players/burners are compatible with both nowadays. I run a video editing service and I sell thousands of DVD's a month. I've ran a little experiment and used DVD+R for a while, then DVD-R. As it turns out, I got way less people bringing back the DVD-R's as opposed to the other. oS when in doubt, go with the DVD-R.
