DVD player crashing randomly

Whenever I try to watch any dvd movie, dvd player crashes randomly during the movie. It happens randomly during parts of the movie. When I reopen dvd player and forward to the part that it crashed on, the movie plays fine. But then around 20-30 minutes later, it crashes again. Obviously, this is a problem with OS X, not my DVD's. Is there a way to fix this? I can't believe that this is happening on my mac when Apple always touts how Macs don't crash.

When DVD Player is closed, drag a file named com.apple.DVDPlayer.plist from your Preferences folder to the Desktop, and see if that makes things smoother.
