DVD Player Error Message on Macbook

I tried loading a DVD onto my Macbook and i'm getting an error message that says DVD encountered a system error nilP i've never seen this before? I've tried other DVD's and i get the same error message. Has anyone ran into this?

Do you use an internal or external optical disk drive (ODD)? Have you tried opening the video DVD in VLC Player yet?

i'm on version 10.5.8 with 1 GB of ram and my model identifier is MacBook 2,1

i'm using the internal optical drive, I'm unsure how to get to VLC Player ?

They do play by using VLC. I'm just unsure why i get an error when i first put the disc in.
