Ok, this is a little off topic, but someone here has got to be able to help...

I need a new DVD player. I just need it to play store-bought and netflix DVD's. I was set to buy a $35 whatever at K-Mart the other day, but was wondering if it was worth spending an extra $15 for one that can upsample to HD (wtf does that even mean)?

Right now it'll be hooked up to a plain old tube TV, but eventually we hope to replace it with an LCD that will likely be HD ready (which is the only reason for my confusion).

Can anyone help me understand what that extra $15 will do for me?

I have found a DVD player that plays DivX very useful, i would highly recommend one that does.

Useful for...

Just curious. I don't think our old one did and we didn't seem to miss it. But that's not to say we wouldn't use it if we could.

You can burn data files from your computer to a cd or dvd and play it on your DVD player. I find this useful when my girl friend comes and a computer screen is not big enough.
