DVD PLAYER problems

So, I'm running tiger on an ibook and it seems dvd player no longer opens the dvd on insert. I checked the preferences, but got nothing. Please help

Hi, so when you opened prefs. in DVD Player, play when dvd is inserted and open when dvd is inserted were checked or you don't have that menu?
Okay I have player opens: start playing then under...When inserted: start playing.

I have the menu etc, It's all checked it just doesnt do it. I tried repairing permissions

Is it just a certain DVD or is it with all DVDs?

And what edition of DVD Player do you have?

Go under "window" in the menu bar and see if viewer is checked or not.
Are you running 4.0?

Sorry I wondered if you had hide viewer checked or not? If not then click on show viewer.

I had a problem with Tiger's DVD player closing on its own.

I finally took off Tiger and went back to 10.3.9. I find Panther much more stable for doing real work.

I had numerous issues on my G5 imac including the fans spinning up to max, losing the mouse, where I had to plug and unplug, safari malfunctions, frequent slowdowns and poor networking with my Linux and Windows boxes.

The DVD player was also closing frequently on its own.

Very happy to be back to Panther.

Well you have me stumped 😎 Have you looked on the Apple help forum to see if others have had the same troubles? Just a thought and about the only one left today 😉
