DVD player suggestions?

I'm looking for a mid-level DVD player that will read my .avi's or .mov's on disc as well? Do they exist? Am i better off buying a mac mini and some ethernet cable?

Look into a Philips 624, easy to remove the region coding, reads avi's, vcd, svcd, PAL and NTSC etc..
