DVD player very slow

Hey, I just bought my mac book pro, and when I want to watch something with Dvd player, it's very slow, and often stuck, so I need to force quit. Can I download another software better than dvd player? Which one?

that's odd... but regardless, you should use VLC.

I have VLC, but I've actually never used it. Is it better than QuickTime or DVD Player?
