any recommendations on good brands for dvd players? looking for pretty simple, high quality brand, with latest technology (ie, can play dvd-r's, etc)

probably looking to stay away from dvd/vcr combos, figuring they are a bit less reliable. also probably don't need multidisc.

essentially, what are the top 2-3 dvd player manufacturers? 🙂

any suggestions would be cool. thanks!

I really like my Phillips DVP642. It plays DVD, SVCD, VCD, DivX, Xvid, mpeg4, mp3, ac3 even the older WMV2-3 codecs. It also has component, s-video and composite out and digital out. No type of media has given me problems be it R or RW - CD or DVD.

I just have a Trinitron CRT and the output is comparable to the other more expensive dvd players I've had.

Best $80 Canadian I've spent.

I'd recommend one that plays DivX and Xvid as well... I bought a Yahama around September for $200 CDN and it's amazing, although you can buy cheaper ones, my friend got a panasonic found around $100 CDN in the summer as well. DivX and Xvid players are extremely convenient and the picture quality is superb.
