I want to kill the region settings on my Macbooks DVD, is there anyway to do this other than flashing the firmware?

The thing is I have two large collections of Region 1 and Region 2 DVDs because I spent a lot of my life in a Region 2 area and now live in the US. Im trying to put my library on a harddrive as backup and also for my home theater. So, when I try to rip a Region 1 DVD when my setting is set for region 2, it doesn't work, and vice versa.

Thanks in advance!

You could try some of the Windows programs like AnyDVD under bootcamp but most likely you will have to flash or get an external drive that is/can be made software region free.
