DVD to I movie

Hi!
Kinda new to mac. have been using pc quite a lot. But wanted to give mac a try. Now ny question. Is there a possibility to somehow convert a dvd so I can use it and edit it in imovie? or do I need a different program for that?

Thanks guys have it up and running now. Must say so far I really love my mac. But now I got a new problem. I want to get the meny where I can slow down the clips and add "effects" watched the turtorial clip and they said I just should doubble click the clip. But when I do this, the video is starting to run instead.

I guess it is just an simple adjustment I have to do. But I cant find it.
