DVD wont play

i have a brand new Macbook Pro 15" (barely a month old)

just ttoday, after my sister closed the screen whilst a movie was playing, no dvd i own will play. this would be fine if i could find these dvd's on the desktop through VLC or something, but it doesnt show up.

any ideas at what has happened?😕
