I have a 2.4GHz Intel Core Duo Macbook Pro with 4GB RAM and a NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT Graphics card, and up until a few days ago I have been able to hook up a 23" Samsung HDTV monitor through the DVI output to use as a monitor when I am editing larger timelines and animating in After Effects. Now my laptop isn't detecting the monitor, although when I insert the DVI cable into the laptop the Samsung monitor flashes, and the laptop screen goes blue for a few seconds. I have checked the DVI input into the monitor and it works fine, and I have also changed DVI cables, so I can only assume that there is something wrong with either my DVI port or my graphics card. Any suggestions?

Well, #1, the nVidia 8600 graphics cards were considered a bad batch. See here.

Usually, these problems present by video distortion and freezing though. You may want to take it into an Apple Store to see if they're send it in and cover it under the program.

Could just be bad DVI out too... pin bent or worn in the connector. Have you tried a different monitor? When it's plugged in, does it sense the other monitor? (You can check by going to System Preferences and seeing if the "Arrangement" tab comes up under Displays.)

Thanks chipchen

I have made a booking with my local Genius Bar. It seems that that known fault is most probably the issue.
