I like to think I'm not a cynical person, but color me suspicious.

I was one of those who struggled through Sim City's myriad of issues last year on the PC, before giving up on it. It was often unplayable.

Based on what, 2 pictures? Virtually no details on the game and you already dismiss it. I assume its based on some hatred for the latest SimCity. Nevermind the fact its been largely fixed by now.

Its just fashionable to hate anything EA do, they don't require evidence or facts unfortunately.

Still being made by EA : EA turning even "Worst Company in America" into a yearly franchise...

EDIT: Apparently Time Warner "won" the "honor" this year, but two years previous was EA.

Not really... the maps are still ridiculously small and the pathfinding AI is incredibly stupid. The game was doomed from the start, the engine is severely flawed.

Like anyone is going to buy a SimCity game after the absolute disaster of one they released earlier this year. HAHAHAHA EA.

Amazing how much hatred EA has created for itself. They have some really dumb people making decisions.

If you took away ea sports I wonder how much the rest of the company makes?

A crapton of money, no doubt.
Free-to-play has to reach a limit sometime. EA is just about there...

I am one who regrets giving money to EA for the disaster that is Sim City for PC/Mac. Worst designed remake of a game in history IMO. It was always a pleasure building a university only to find no room to expand it and everyone else in my region had left to go play a better game.

I'm guessing it won't work while offline. :D

I loved the old Sim games. But if the next EA version doesn't work offline, I am not interested. Especially since the FCC is probably going to bow down before the megacontent providers and do a complete cave on net neutrallity. Once they focus-group the language to announce it without causing peasants with pitchforks to burn down Washington, the dimwitted deal will be done. So then the upcoming "fast lane" bits of the net are not likely to include EA gaming servers' pathway to East Podunk here, especially over DSL to the near boondocks of my house.

I don't mean to send the thread to PRSI so I should say that I believe net neutrality is not actually controversial among forum members. If I am wrong, the mods can just delete the post and I will not take offense. :)

What do you suggest?

Pay full price upfront for a complete game. You know... how it used to be before App Store customers created the race to the bottom. Waiting for a timer to run out so you can place a building is not gameplay. Neither is paying $0.99 every time you want to speed up said timer.

second release? there's an iphone and ipad versions of simcity on the store... so this would be the third.

the existing simcity for iphone isnt a bad deal... it hasnt been optimized for newer screens since the 4S, but at $.99 its not a bad deal for something to zone out on...

The only IAP should be to upgrade to a full version. Have a free version which gives you 30 mins of test play (after which your city is destroyed by a massive earth quake).

I agree. I appreciate that EA offered an in-app purchase to unlock full functionality in FIFA 14. I wish they'd do that more often.

EA has already proven that they have no problem with destroying their franchises with terrible mobile ports for a quick buck.

I’m just expecting another Dungeon Keeper situation.

Please, EA. Games are supposed to improve over time, not become worse. EA. Pls. Stop.

So I have been playing BuildIt for a few weeks now and I have to say it feels just like the old SimCity on PC mixed with that Facebook version we had a while ago.

Overall I am really enjoying it. I was worried about in game purchases but honestly they reward you for doing certain things and levels with the in game currency, so you can manage it well and not have to make any purchases if you don't want to. They are only there for speeding things up which is nice.

I am at a point now, where I am level 16 and am kinda stuck but its only due to poor initial city planning, but I am not worried. I can recover.

The fact that they won at all shows just how pointless and meaningless that competition is.

EA still makes Call of Duty, right? ;)
