Full quote: "With the Retina Display and the improved processor, combined with the Metal [graphics] capabilities and 128GB of memory, that gets you to a device that's on par with next-generation consoles. That's moving perfectly into our strike zone."

In terms of raw processing power, he is certainly at least a bit off but in terms of what can be developed for both he does have a point. If the PS Vita can run console experiences, the iPhone 6 is well ahead of it in capabilities. I do think we could see developers simultaneously release games on iPhone 6 and up, and consoles if they chose to.

The executive is incorrect when it comes to GPU power, but the iPhone 6 does have a 2 billion transistor CPU.

Prior to this I was thinking about making a thread about how Bioshock was a half-hearted port. It should've been made for iOS 8 with improved graphics, not downgraded visuals.

OMG tho' , it only has 1GB of RAM what will we all do? OMG

Looks like EA have been drinking the Apple cool aid. Won't be doing much of anything with 1GB after next September...

If you ask me, Apple is missing a MASSIVE opportunity to own the gaming world.
Sony has proven that cloud gaming can be a real thing, so why doesn't Apple, with all it's cloud power, start up a game subscription. Flat fee, play any game in the app store on iPhone, iPad and of course, Apple TV.

Calling these devices phones is getting a tad silly now. Making phones call is the least of their capabilities. Samsung was running an Oculus VR headset off their new flagship Note 4 a couple of weeks ago. Pretty mental when you think about it.

Caveat however. Mac gaming never really snowballed the way I thought it might on a couple of occasions, and it might take someone new at the helm who is really up for taking Mac OS and iOS gaming seriously.

Would be a bit sad if iOS gaming takes off, but Mac users are still bootcampin' it to frag their buddies

Phone has a completely different definition now. When you say phone no one thinks of a basic phone anymore lol.

Macworld disagrees with your comment. They state 2. Keep in mind professional review sites already have the phones and their reviews are under NDA until this Thursday or Friday.

A console without a controller is no fun, so iPhone can't match ps4 or xbox just yet,

Honestly I'd be willing to spend more money on iPhone games than PS4 if they did get it to be console level. I have have time to consoles so always end up selling them. at least 9/10 I have iPhone with me so can get use.

EA is so full of s*** it's unbelievable. By far the worst and most ignorant gaming company out right now, hell they've actually held that title for a while.

Gaming on iOS is never going to reach the level of console gaming simply because the App Store ecosystem isn't ideal for mainstream developers/publishers. People will not spend the kind of money on apps that they spend on console games, and developers are not going to make the investment necessary to create console quality games if they won't make a profit.

Glad someone is actually commenting on point lol. The fact that people believe this statement is... troubling.

All the major releases also run on last gen consoles, and they only have 528MB of RAM.

It's funny when people say the iPhone isn't a gaming device. Even mention it being a gaming device on the ign boards and you'll get murdered haha.

Apple TV will be your game console if they ever get around to updating it me thinks.

Does anyone who is even remotely into gaming believe that anything EA says should be taken with anything less than a pound of salt?

Nope. No way a phone is even close to console gaming. You can replicate the experience of a game like Call of Duty on a small screen with games like Modern Combat, but it simply can't match the sheer GPU power of a console.

What is EA on exactly? The iPhone - or any phone isn't a gaming device... maybe for casual gamers.

Gaming as we knew it is dying anyway in general.

People were speculating that this might be the last traditional console cycle.

I own a Vita, it can't run console experiences, but runs console like experiences, it's close, but not quite there.
