That's why I don't trust the cloud, that's why I prefer physical games and consider download-only games to be a plague, because beyond downloadability there's a lot of other issues involved.

Are you kidding me?
Transitioning from one computer to the next means you format shift the things if you know the new one doesn't have a drive.
It also means, you're keeping backups anyways. That's of course if you're as concerned as I am as collector.

Oh and on top of that, collectors don't mind keeping spare parts, backup systems and all that around. Surely a $5 USB floppy drive won't hurt the wallet either if one were to be completely out drives.

I can install using the iCloud download button but none of these discontinued games have "pages" anymore. So (not talking about you) to the snarky comments about games being useless on iOS because we lose the games after a while...think again! :)

How are iOS games disposable?

I'd like to think somebody who still kept this and was interested in playing this again one day would've found some solution with virtualization.

My question is why do they remove the apps when they can just sit quietly in the store making money?

Just because a game is older and not updated doesn't mean it's no longer good!
Apple does "clean sweeps" of the iOS App Store periodically. They need to be updated (and I'm sure the developer's ToS mention this) to be able to run on the latest versions of iOS (although note this isn't a mutually exclusive thing... a game that needs to be updated to run on ios10.. the current version of iOS can still work on ios8 and ios9), needs to support 64-bit architecture (so no more apps for iPhone 5), use the latest APIs, etc., or else Apple will remove them.

So if the final version of Flight Control, can support ios8, but not ios10, Apple will remove it from the app store. Sure, EA could update this game, but TBF, updating this game costs time, which is money, and it's unlikely it'd generate enough sales to make it worth the time spent (IIRC, developers time costs $50 to $150 an hour or something like that?)

From the consumer side, they're inexpensive. Many or free to download, or only cost up to $5. It's cheap enough that you can just move on without feeling like you didn't "adequate value" out of them. If they put up paywalls, forced IAP, or grinding, the user will get annoyed enough to not bother

From the developer standpoint, many users have come to expect "free updates for life". Updating a game costs money, but b/c of that thinking, it won't generate anymore income. So their best bet at making money is to quickly churn out a game, not update it, and go on to the next game to make more money.
