Did a search and couldn't find. Also not listed in Apple Support Control Center (link below).

What is the Ear Icon in Control Center? I don't have AirPods so not related. I edited and arranged Control Center a couple of months ago and don't remember seeing since I would have Removed. If I hit it it just says Done. Done what???

do you have hearing aids?
you might want to check bluetooth devices to see if you've got something weird paired

it seems to apply to live listen, but can't find much info
and doesn't seem to be supported on the watch

No, I have a pair of B&W P7 BT, Pair of UE Fits BT and UE 11Pros that I use BT cables with. Have them connected to a MEE now. I have never used my (current) Apple Watch to play music and only use my iPhone.

I have a pair of AirPods Max on order.

Here is all that is paired to my iPhone. A couple are old BT cables and I need to check and delete. I workout a lot and go through them like water.

Now that I look, sure enough, that icon is on mine. If I press it, it brings up a black screen that has a "done" in the upper right corner. Let it sit like that for a bit and nothing noticeable happened. Pressing done takes it back to the control center.

I also noticed I had an icon that is a square box with a squiggly in the left hand corner, and the icon is grayed out. It's mystery iconpalooza around here!

This is to toggle "Announce Messages with Siri"
The "squiggly" should be in the right corner, not left, though:

These mystery icons are not terribly useful. Just create more questions.

Thanks so much for the replies! It's great to know what these icons actually do since Apple doesn't seem to want to give me any way on my watch to figure out what they're all about.

I have the ‘Hearing’ Control added in Control Center on my phone and it enables three features:
  1. Headphone Level
  2. Background Sounds
  3. Live Listen
The first feature gives you decibel level and safe listening-level information and it shows up on Apple Watch Control Center too.

The second feature lets you mix in (or play on their own) typical background soundscapes with your audio and adjust that sounds’ volume.
  • Balanced Noise
  • Bright Noise
  • Dark Noise
  • Ocean
  • Rain
  • Stream
The third feature lets you use your phone as the microphone source for audio playing back in the headphones. It’s a great accessibility feature for people with hearing difficulties.

The first two features, Headphone Level and Background Sounds, appear to work fine with third-party headphones like my Sennheiser Momentum Wireless 3s. The Live Listen feature only works for me with Apple AirPods.

Only Headphone Level appears in Control Center in watchOS.

My 2nd generation AirPods have the announce messages feature but I don’t see the squircle icon with a waveform.

However I do see a bell with a waveform in the same upper-right position. The bell is identical to the Silent Mode bell when it is not activated. I have no idea what this one does because it doesn’t do anything at all when pressed.

That is the Announce Notifications toggle.

That is the bell icon for reference. It does nothing whether I am wearing or not wearing AirPods, whether audio is playing, or whether I am in Silent Mode or a Focus mode or not. ?‍♂️
