Good morning all.
Sorry if this has been mentioned before but i get an error when trying to enable earc.
I have selected Homepods as default speaker, have them connected to earc HDMI port, using Apples Belkin high speed cable. What do i need to enable for this to work and where?
I have a Sony Bluray player connected to Arc HDMI and I would like for sound to be played on Homepods.
TV is Philips OLED 806 if this helps.

arc is audio return channel, it allows audio to travel "backwards" on an HDMI cable.
your blu-ray (and other devices) will still use "regular" HDMI to send audio to the TV, the TV then uses the ARC channel to send audio to the aTV on the same cable that normally carries audio/video from the aTV.

think of the ARC port as having 2 modes.
-- an input to the television for audio/video from an external device
-- an output from the television for audio (no video) to an external device.

if you have the ARC port selected as the source in your TV, the ARC port will be in input mode.
If you have any other input (or an app on the TV) selected, the ARC port will be in output mode (you may have to manually switch from "TV speakers" to "ARC" in the audio section of settings on your television)

you want the aTV connected to the ARC port, not the blu-ray
right now you're trying to send audio from the TV to the blu-ray.

Use your TV as an HDMI hub. Plug the Homepods' HDMI cable into the TV's eARC (HDMI) port. Plug all other HDMI devices into the other HDMI ports. Check your TV's manual for its AUDIO settings. Ensure that eARC is turned "on" if not that way by default. Assuming that the Homepods, TV, and Blue-ray player are working properly, you're done.

I am a bit lost by your reply sorry.
To clarify- Apple TV connected to HDMI 2 - earc - Belkin 48 GB cable
Bluray player connected to HDMI 3 - arc with HDMI cable.
What to enable in settings for this to work?
Earc is set to automatic in settings of TV.
Thank you for the help.

That won't work in the way that you want. Also, there should not be two ports on your TV, both labeled "ARC".

Turn all power "off".
You probably, have only one (e)ARC port on your TV. Use that port for your HomePods.
Use HDMI High Speed with Ethernet, or Ultra High Speed with Ethernet, cables.
Connect one end of one of your HDMI cables to the TV's (e)ARC port.
Connect the other end of that HDMI cable to your HomePod's HDMI port.
Connect another HDMI cable to a different HDMI port on your TV.
Connect the other end of that cable to your Blue-Ray player's HDMI port.
Connect another HDMI cable to a vacant HDMI port on your TV.
Connect the other end of that cable to your ATV's HDMI port.
Turn all power "on".
Using your TV, go into your ATV's Settings app. Under the Audio tab, select HomePods as your speakers.

I am lost because Homepods don’t have a HDMI port.
My TV has: one earc port- HDMI 2, one 120 Hz Arc port
Two Arc HDMI ports
The Bluray player is plugged into HDMI 3- Arc

what am i missing here? 😔

I made a mistake: there is no HomePod HDMI connection.
Apple describes what to do here.

Tried that. Didn’t work.
I’ll try again on Tuesday (tv replacement as faulty) and let you know. 😎
Thank you for your help.
I have this working and was easy to setup with my LG 2021 TV also has it working an old Sony Android TV I replaced.

So you connect the Apple TV to the eARC HDMI port on the TV, then set the Homepods as the default speakers for the Apple TV so you get Dolby Atmos etc. All other devices connect directly to the TV via the remaining HDMI ports on the TV and that is it make sure eARC is enabled on the TV as by default some TVs only have ARC enabled. Mine works perfectly so I get Atmos from the TV apps if I want to use them the LG Magic remote can also control the Apple TV which is handy when I want to switch to broadcast TV no need to swap remotes of buy a universal remote.
