Early 2009 MP won't connect to internet after sleep

Since Yosemite, my early 2009 (2x2.26) MP won't connect to the internet after waking from sleep. I've tried switching the ethernet cable between 1 and 2 which doesn't work. I've tried rebuilding the ports through the system prefs by removing then adding the ethernet ports. The only way it will connect is to restart the computer. I saw a thread someplace else about the same issue but there was no fix. Any thoughts?
