When I press the power button I hear something engage but there is no start up gong nor does the screen change at all. I swapped out the hard drive cable from a working 2011 MBP and that cable works great.

The same result happens with the power connected and not connected. The battery indicator on the left-hand of the MBP shows the battery is fully charged.

Any suggestions on what might be the problem is appreciated.

Does the screen light up at all? The lack of the POST sound usually indicates a hardware problem. It could be a bad power supply or a dead GPU.

The power remains on when started. When I hook-up an external monitor all I see is vertical lines on the external monitor. I presume that confirms the GPU is dead, right?
