Poster on tech sites aren't most people. I could show you a ton of Twitter and Instagram posts basically saying "shut up and take my money".
That's because those people have no idea what they're doing, people here generally do. I'm sure there are people saying shut up and take my money about the $10,000 gold alloy watch with plastic band as well.

Why is it so important to call other people stupid? Does that make you feel better about your self?

It's not directed at Rogifan; but if you are actually in line for a rMB, then what else would you call it?

It's like buying a porsche 911 in 2015 but it has the performance of a 2001 honda accord. What would you call paying so much in 2015 for a Porsche that performs the same as a 2001 honda accord?

Not really, the price difference between a 2015 Porsche 911 and a 2001 Honda Accord is probably in the 50x range. ;)

what a joke

A 15-inch MacBook Pro is 2-3x faster. It's also 2-3x bigger!

Do people not look at the whole picture anymore, or is it cool to poopoo the new thing based on one metric? Judging a computer based off its Geekbench score is like basing your car purchase on horsepower.

The processor's not super fast. No one was expecting it to be super fast. But it's ridiculously light and thin, fanless, has a Retina display, and has a fast SSD that will be plenty of horsepower for Office, Mail, iTunes, Safari, and TurboTax. If you wanted to edit your 4K video on this, you're doing it wrong.

My February 2009 MacBook Pro (2.93GHz, Core 2 Duo, T9800) chip scores 3954 points in the same benchmark.

Yes a Dual Core chip from 2009 scores almost the same as the MacBook in 2015. That's 6 years between them.

I hope it performs better than this old clunker does, just opening a website that makes heavy use of Javascript brings it to its knees with 100% cpu usage and extreme UI lag.

not to mention ridiculous price for dongle. and 0 support for USB-C

Surface 3 at 499 will run circles around this. :(

It it would be a no brainer purchase for me. If it came down between this ridiculous Macbook and the $599 Surface Pro 3, the Macbook wouldn't stand a chance.

It's not a joke, but you know what's worse; I'm not surprised.. Because every year Apple loses their ambition to make better laptops.. They put some make-up on the existing line and TaDaa Here comes 2016 Macbook or Pro or Retina or..

I think putting a retina screen on a computer that is noticeably thinner and weighs less than the MBA is a much better laptop.

Sounds like you are conceding the point that the new MacBook is indeed an overpriced, underperforming dog when compared to the rest of the line... from 5 years ago. Yeah, I know you probably don't see it that way, but when you say that Apple isn't worried about fair pricing (in other words, in accordance with the performance and capabilities of the machine), you admit it.

Where does this '5 years ago' wording come from?

2015 - 5 = 2010, not 2011!

This notebook is for the vast majority of people who want something portable, light, and can handle most tasks such as email, web browsing, Netflix, YouTube, Facebook and the occasional Word or Pages document, would be a fantastic computer to travel with.

For example, my old white plastic Macbook that benchmarks SIGNIFICANTLY lower than this still handles Photoshop CS5 like a champ when I need it to, and does all other tasks just fine.

Some people just don't realize how much computer they don't need, and rather just focus on specs.

much less port, barely thinner, barely lighter, worse camera, worse keyboard, confusing touchpad....

The Air doesn't have retina because Apple does not wish it. Same with Force Touch. The weight... Really? THAT is actually the selling point vs the Air?

They eliminate functionality, reduce performance, throw in some gimmicky touch pad and display tech that is 3 years old (in the MBP line)... but hey, it weighs under a pound less!

Please, don't purchase it and just go away.

Apple's army of customers that'll accept anything and stand behind Apple has taught this very wealthy company just where they can cut corners and extract even greater profits.

It's a brilliant strategy that furthers Apple's competitive advantage. For shareholders like myself we share in Apple's shrewd moves as they continue to become more valuable.

I don't understand this obsession with thinnest. I would rather Apple keep the same thickness and weight of the current Macbook Air with the Macbook Retina and just give me more battery life. I bet we could have had another 2-4 extra hours of battery if they would have done that. Wouldn't you guys want an additional 4 hours of battery life in the current Macbook Air?

But they already last a full workday. Why would I need more?

Good for you, but most people want more than just an ornament to put on their mantel piece. If this thing had a Windows logo on it, people would be laughing their heads off, and funnily enough even with the Apple logo on it most people are laughing their heads off.

I will use mine 10 hours each work day. It's not a trophy computer.

All of these comments really, really remind me of the original MacBook Air. "Lighter, worse performance, less ports, more expensive! Who'd want this!?" And then here we are, a few years later, and the MacBook Air has come down in price, performance has increased, and it has a place finally for consumers. I expect the same thing will happen with this new Retina MacBook.

Thanks squirt, we'll check back on the status of this "notebook" in a few years.
:apple:

No surprise here. We all knew that by making a fanless notebook, it was going to vastly under-perform. All they need to do is upgrade the current MBA to retina displays.
