If you find the touchpad confusing, you really should be looking at some other type of tech product.
funny you say that, because "confusing" is the word quoted by many tech expert during Apple's hands-on session with this laptop

Size difference and Retina display is actually a really big difference. It's negligible FOR YOU.
Figured it would come in at around 2300 - 2400 single core; and 4300 - 4500 multicore.
I believe that the new Macbook is an amazing piece of technology, but it is something that will probably get much much better in its second iteration.
NopeAm I the only one left who wants CPU horsepower over battery life?
Just as some think one port on a computer is just ridiculous too. If you do everything cloud based and don't need ports, you shouldn't need hard drive space either, its all stored in the cloud.
Slightly OT, but, what are you running SW on now, and how?
I think that the one thing apple does better than any other company is that they know their market very well. There seems to be a theme in recent years.
1. Apple releases new product.
2. People on forums say apple has finally lost the plot and they are doomed.
3. Product sells incredibly well.
4. People on forums say that isheep will buy anything with an apple logo.
Meanwhile, in the real world, apple has designed a product that will suit the majority of users in that segment and the majority of customers are very happy with it.
The one port thing seems like a strange choice but I thought they were stupid when they didn't release a big screen iphone 5 and that worked out ok for them.
But aren't the people who say they don't need or want ports also the same people touting it comes with 256GB SSD? I mean, if you don't need ports in 2015, you must not need hard drive space either right? Everything is in the cloud right? How about if this computer only had 16GB SSD?

So am I right in thinking it's the same speed as a 2011 machine, but is running 4 times as many pixels... forgive me if that's a simplistic view? But it sounds pretty good to me, and 3 times better battery too is a bonus too.

Watch the 2008 intro of the MBA and tell me that Jobs was not about fashion, style and form over function? Can't be done.
For somebody carrying a notebook around all day (not me), the tradeoff in ports and performance for better portability but with a retina screen is perfectly acceptable.
Call me certifiable then. I REALLY do. It's the killer feature of the new MacBook. That, and 1.5 lbs. lighter than the MacBook Pro which is the only other way to get a Mac laptop with a high-res screen.Man you have to be certifiable to buy this new MacBook over an Air. You would REALLY want to have the screen resolution.
They wanted to release a super-thin notebook with a fanless design. The only compatible Intel processors are the Core M processors. With all the delays to Broadwell, much improved Skylake processors are waiting in the wings.
My point is that, for better or for worse, the new MacBook is a lot like the original MacBook Air. Those who can wait until October or November might well be rewarded with a fairly significantly improved MacBook. But if you want something this light, whether from Asus, or HP, or Lenovo, you are getting a Core M processor that has comparable performance to the 2011 Sandy Bridge processors, albeit at much lower power draws.
They can have a product ready, just waiting for Intel to get a new chip out the door.
2012 15"rMBP, using parallels with windows 7. It performs great! On my 2012 Mac mini, I just loaded win 7 with boot camp, and solidworks does run, but the graphics aren't too great on it.
