Of course there are bugs

Early adoption = beta testing. I'd like to say "you're welcome" to all of you who will buy one in the future because of our eager endeavor into ipad ownership.

However, it is very worth it. I haven't touched my macbook since the day I bought the ipad. It is more functional and faster than my 4 year old lappy.

I got the best buy coverage so that when I throw it against the wall next year, I get the new entry level one at no cost, and it will probably have a camera and SD card reader, and have better wifi and charging capability.

Favorite app - proprompter (for iphone). Makes the ipad into a full-fledged teleprompter and uses an iphone or touch to remote control. Seriously... amazing.

people are complaining about the iPad????

what is this world coming to?

i don't think anyone monitoring these message boards is surprised by the volume of new iPad complaints.

The only difference now is that the complainers have the device in-hand to complain about instead of just spouting nonsense based on speculative info from the Interwebz.

Oh yeah, release the MBPs already to maintain the Reality Distortion Field, and everyone will forget about the iPad problems.

I love mine so far. No wifi issues at all. Of course my distances aren't huge. No drops though.

The charging thing is weird though. My mini charges it just fine same with my ACD. I wouldn't have known.

I guess amazing battery life isn't the be-all-end-all of mobile devices... particularly when the wi-fi and charging capabilities are gimped.

magical... wonderful... remarkable... far better... pretty amazing... incredible... larger... beautiful... amazing... better... bigger... terrific... awesome... revolutionary... extraordinary... phenomenal... unbelievably great... gorgeous... exciting... super responsive...

:D :D :D

Nice spin. The charging capabilities aren't "gimped". It's quite simple really, if your computer has "gimped" USB power provided through its ports, it can't charge as well as if your ports could supply the power.

The only thing they did wrong was not make it more clear (an alert message the first time would've been more appropriate).

I'm using an 8-core 2008 Mac Pro and it can't charge the iPad. So, these "older devices" or whatever they're talking about I think is a load of hogwash.

It's not the complete end of the world though. I just plug it in and charge it. Not so painful - but an annoyance.

It'd be nice if we could sync iPhones and iPads wirelessly though. That'd be sweet.

been waiting for this kind of news..

good reason not to buy a product right out of the gate.

course, as soon as they release mbp's, i'll be doing the same thing.. but that's just because apple is taking their sweet !@#$ing time in releasing them and i've been in the market since october..

was really hoping for a january release..

The power requirements over USB are rather annoying. Though it makes sense that'd only charge when it's off. I don't expect most devices to charge while on.

Funny, I was sitting outside a Panera Bread and saw a couple with an iPad complaining about its ability to pick up the signal outside. Meanwhile, my MBP had three of four arcs of the Airport icon.

Aside from some wi-fi quirks (slower connection & weaker reception at times than I get on my iPhone and other Macs) I've had no issues at all with my iPad. I'm hoping a software update will address the wi-fi problems many including myself are having. I certainly don't regret making the purchase.

You're using the port in the front, right?

The ones in the back should work. (I think.)

Yeah, I know that sucks, but if I were you I'd rather do that than just not charge it at all. Is your tower in a place where you can place the iPad on top of the Mac Pro? The cable will reach that far.

Wifi complaints credible

I have noticed the wifi issue and was wondering if it was just me. I am impressed with the speed when connected to a N router but have noticed a very low signal as compared to my iphone when in the same location in my house. I have not tested this extensively but I am will to wager apple will address this issue in firmware updates.

Keynote not covering itself in glory either !

The iPad is probably the first time some users, especially PC owners, will have come across iWorks. It disappointing that their first impression of this productivity suite is so stilted.
The experience for the accustomed user also looks rather mixed. Keynote Lite !!! Hopefully this will get sorted soon. :(
This functionality is one of the key reasons I was going to buy the iPad. Without it I may as well stick with the MBP and use the £500 set aside for something more useful, like a present for my mum's 80th birthday. :)

Works, but is fussy.

Sounds right for a fresh computer design. Doesn't sound that bad, though, especially the charging problems.

As a previous poster pointed out, you wouldn't expect to charge your laptop or netbook from a USB port would you?

Seems the wifi issues are not widespread.

The charging caveats are not a big deal.

Nothing to see here . . .

I plan to buy one mid-summer ahead of a vacation across Japan / Russia. Got to have the kids entertained during those long flights :)

I don't think the charging will be an issue. I assume the power adaptor has swappable plugs like all the other Apple products do. Of course, the intelligent charger like Rocketman describes would be good.

The wi-fi worries me. I guess many of us will be connecting from hotspots at cafes, hotels, etc. where the signals are weak to begin with. This one must get fixed fast.

You know, Apple really should have provided a special USB cable that could get data via a USB connection to a computer, but drew power from the separate 10W adapter. Basically data from the computer USB connector, but power from the adapter. Charge and sync without worries.

I wouldn't be surprised if someone doesn't come up with such a device soon.

Since most of us aren't having any WIFI issues, it's almost certainly not a hardware design flaw but is probably due to how some routers are setup. The best way to determine that would be to go to a friends house, one who preferably has an iPad that is not experiencing this issue, and see if you still have problems. I would be willing to bet that you won't. I'm sure that the fix will come soon in the form of instructions to tweak some router settings. Of course it could be a software issue with certain routers, but I have a hard time believing that it's a hardware design flaw.

Older Macs? Pray tell which Macs have low power vs. high power usb ports. What point in time is the cut off.

2007 Rev. A Aluminum iMac?
2008 Rev A. Aluminum MacBook 13.3" no FW.

I've got a Rev A iMac and the iPad charges just fine off a directly connected USB port.

Should also say that I haven't had any WiFi issues running at 802.11n @ 5.8Ghz on a AirPort Extreme Rev A.

A1016 Apple Wireless Keyboard won't pair

This keyboard will not pair via bluetooth. The manual just says to pair a wireless keyboard. It does not say some keyboards. Apple Care told me it has to be a 2007 keyboard or later. Funny, it pairs fine with my Mini purchased earlier this year. Others have the same result.
