Bought the iPhone X in 2017. January 2019, 1 month out of warranty poof...the Face ID is Not Available appears.
I have done all I can do from a fix perspective except make an animal sacrifice and take it to the Genius Bar. Today I "chatted" with an Apple Support person online. He told me there are no open tech bulletins or recalls or any recourse. I will be charged.

So I guess that's that. US$1,099.00 for a device who's main selling feature is broken. I am not about to pay a dime for any True Depth camera fix they state will fix the problem. It is also the last time I get an Apple product without AppleCare.

Which reminds me, I need to get AppleCare on this brand new MBP.

Warranty without Apple Care insurance is for 1 year. Yours busted in two.
Sucks it went haywire, but no  product can be assumed to work perfectly beyond the warranty period.
Typical  repair costs are exorbitant because they're in the business of selling new phones and don't want repairs to be worthwhile.

Yep. I got the phone in Dec of 2017 so it lasted 13 months. I should have been specific.
