Easiest method to hide folders?

In the classic/PowerPC days I used ResEdit and just 'hid' the folders. So whats the Mac OS X /intel version these days?

Any suggestions, your experiences/solutions appreciated.

I usually use Terminal to rename them so they have a "." in front of the name:

mv hideme.txt .hideme.txt

just thought others might be using software instead like Hide Folders

I was hoping that there was a way to lock folders in OSX.

i think you need file vault for that
