Easiest way to get DVDs into iTunes for ATV

It sounds like you have a Mac, but you do all your video processing on a Windows machine? That's pretty much my setup. I used to use MetaX to do the tagging on the PC. However, after the processing, all my video files end up residing on my Mac. That makes it convenient to do the tagging on my Mac as a final step before they go in my library. I use Identify - another excellent, Mac only, metadata tagging app.

I just tried an experiment and ran Identify on files which are shared from my PC. It worked much faster than I expected. Apparently Identify doesn't need to read/write the entire file to do the tagging. So, running something like Identify on your Mac might be a painless way to do the tagging of the files on your PC.

and, for serious, I use handbrake, takes roughly 45 minutes per movie on average, then chucking into iTunes and putting all the relevant information I need takes another 5-10 minutes, google search a good poster image and boom I'm done. my TB has about 120gigs left so I have room to play.

Sorry. I lost track. I guess the one working in Windows was "rsnaider". If he doesn't have a Mac, MetaX is probably still the best bet for tagging. But it's not nearly as good as the Mac only alternatives. (At least it wasn't when I last used it a year or so ago.)

how much larger are bluray files compared to standard def?? my TB is filing up quickly, and the standard def versions work well for what I need, mostly just put them on my 4S, original iPad or just stream to appleTV.

iVI Pro can add meta data to already ripped H.264 files. You can change the meta data as many times as you want without messing with the video file.
 
So it would seem all the good people here use Mac's and that is where most of the development goes towards these tools.

oh-well, only a hundred or so more to go and I will be done......

So I tried this method (and the others) and for both I cannot see my movie on Apple TV (it only shows up on the "computer tab). For the option above I am missing the artwork. Is there any way to add it?

Sorry, I meant the "computers" tab on Apple TV. It doesn't show up under the "movies" tab.

Sorry, I meant the "computers" tab on Apple TV. It doesn't show up under the "movies" tab.

It's normal for it to be under the "Computers" tab. The "Movies" tab is for iTunes Store movies. "Computers" is where you'll find your shared iTunes library from your computer.

Artwork is normally added by IDentify. You can drag the movie from iTunes back into IDentify, let it re-scan, select "Edit Tags", go to the "Artwork" tab, and make sure it's found something appropriate.

It never will. Under Movies tab, you can only browse iTunes Store content plus your purchases from the same. All streaming content will be visible as Home Sharing libraries under the Computers tab.
