Hi,

On my Mac I used a little app called Piezo to record radio shows. Such apps obviously don’t exist on iOS.

Do simple audio recorder exist that plug into the iPads usb C output?

Thanks!

GarageBand exists. It's primarily aimed at musicians but you can record anything with it.
Voice Memos will also record from external hardware, I believe (but haven't tried).

Thanks. I am looking for a way to record an internet audio stream that plays on an iPad (without the use of a computer).

So are you looking to achieve this entirely within your iPad, i.e. stream audio from one app which sends its audio output directly to another app running in the background, or are you streaming from a different device that you want to plug into the iPad and use the iPad as just a glorified taperecorder?

If the former, there are Loopback apps for Macs which allow you to record audio from one app (let's say Spotify) into another app (let's say GarageBand or Memos), but I'm not sure if such an app exists on the iPad. But that said, I haven't looked.

If you just want to use the iPad as a glorified taperecorder to record audio from a different device, you need an audio interface that plugs into your iPad. If you have a USBC iPad then boy are are you in luck because there are dozens of audio interfaces that will just plug right in and work if you use a USBC-to-whatever cable. If you are on a Lightning iPad, it's still possible but way more complicated.

Sorry for not being clear enough. The radio is playing on the iPad and I’d like to capture the radio show.

You can make a screen recording (Make sure to toggle off the iPad microphone by long pressing the screen recording button and turning it off). It will record the system audio (along with video). Then use a Shortcut to extract the audio only. Here’s the shortcut process (make sure Encode Media has the Audio Only toggled on)

Merci! I will give it a go.

I was hoping for an mp3 recorder that could plug into the iPads usb c. Teenage Engineering are about to to release a recorder priced like a MBA.

As far as external recorders, I use a Centrance Mixerface (it also doubles as an audio interface) and I love it. Through I thought the whole idea was to record inside the iPad. Teenage Engineering is cool, but theres a lot of options out there. https://centrance.com/mixerface/
