I've stumbled upon an application that lets you control external monitor brightness using the regular brightness keys on macs.

I did a quick video to test it out with a variety of displays on a variety of connections and cover a brief installation tutorial. The Dell 4K is the one I use regularly and it works great.

LG UltraFine 4K and 5K displays are supported. No verdict on the Pro Display XDR - if anyone installs this and uses it with the XDR, please post a reply?

I have been using this app for about a week now. As with you, I stumbled upon it. I have been using Brightness Slider, that app has not been updated for five years. MonitorControl doesn't do any more than Brightness Slider did, but it's being supported so I will be switching. I have an LG UltraFine and a 2019 Mac Pro.

Added. How's that beauty of a screen treating you?
I still miss the sharpness of the text on Apple's Retina screens, but it's more than sharp enough, color accurate enough, and unlike Apple's or LG Ultrafine's 27" screens, I can actually use the full 5K resolution and not have everything appear too small on the screen. I'm very happy with it so far!

Thanks for sharing - I didn’t miss the retina much after switching to a 32” at work on a daily basis, am also considering an ultra wide hence the question, thanks :)
