West Coast
Ok, I got into a debate recently with some DC area friends and would appreciate the MR Community's input on the matter.

I'm starting two threads (with polls); one is for seafood and one is for beer. This is the seafood thread.

Which coast has better seafood: the East Coast or the West Coast? Why?

(And yes, I realize more places have seafood than just the coasts of the US, but for this argument I'm only pitting those two locations against each other…)

Blue Crabs FTW!

Mid 1950s grocery shopping with my mom... seafood used to be almost free. The quality of the seafood we get today has gone way down from what we had in the 50s and 60s. Of course you could also get a top of the line steak dinner for about 2 bucks.

Having lived in Holland and Italy, I don't really care- seafood in the U.S. is subpar anywhere, compared to Mediterranean.

No way. We're talking about taste and no crab comes close to blue crab in that department, TV series or not!

Blue Crab just has never been that good to me. I would much rather have my king crab.
As for Sea Food I go for I go for Samoan (West coast) King Crab (West Coast), Snow Crab (West Coast), Shimp (Gulf coast), Ostlers (Gulf Coast), and Craw Fish (Gulf Coast)

To be more exact on those Gulf Coast supply they are all from Texas who's fishery have not been effected by the oil spill and hopefully they will not be effected. I live in Houston so most of our Gulf Seafood supply comes from Texas.

I've had it from both coasts now and prefer west coast for all things shellfish. Salmon has been best here if you exclude Brophy Bros in SB. Hands down they win for mahi mahi, salmon, shrimp, and scallops.

As much as I love King Crab, I also love Maine Lobster and Louisiana Crawfish

It's kinda amazing how many Cajun style crawfish joints there are in the OC
