Easy backup of music files?

If I have around 40gb of music and want to back it up on dvd's is there an easy way to do this? I have toast, but am not sure how to split the files easily. In addition, they are on an external hard drive, as I'm using an ibook which doesnt have more then 10gb of free space. So basically, can toast or os x split the files easily or something?

Why not just burn data disks directly from iTunes...?
