Right I'm considering purchasing an iMac, and upgrading the ram to 4GB, however i've noticed if i bought the ram from crucial it could save me a significant amount.

The problem is, I've never owned an iMac before, nor have I ever opened up a computer to fiddle with components, so I was wondering would I be able to install the ram myself with relative ease? without making the warranty void? ...if it seems a complicated task, I maybe inclined to pay the extra and go with the apple upgrade.

    Any help is appreciated.

Adding the RAM is rather peanuts - if you are careful opening the hinge at the bottom (correct screwdriver and picking out the metal frame with something like a toothpick).
Just one issue I had myself: REMOVING the RAM already present. There is some piece of plastic coming out from one side of the RAM and then bended over and back inwards to the other side (I know it's hard to explain, but I guess there are pics on the net). Anyway - I pulled the plastic quite hard but the RAM would not come out. This could be a pity when you buy like me two bars of 2GB and are not able to remove the standard 1GB RAM. Then you'll end up - like me again - with 3GB and 2GB 'spare' RAM...

But do not buy it from Apple - TOO expensive !!!

Check out this page... I watched this before replacing the RAM in my iMac... very useful (and very simple!) :)

4GB Crucial RAM is around 120 USD. I bought the same RAM from newegg.com for 99USD and with a $20 MIR.

There is also RAM which is as cheap as 85 USD around the web if you can find it.

Replacing RAM is very very easy. Just don't rush and take your time, and you'll be fine ;)
