So I bought an At&t iPhone 6 off of eBay with the intention of unlocking it and using it on verizon with my sim. So I went to unlock but they say I can't because the guy I bought it from hasn't finished paying his at&t Next payments on the phone. Ouch. So now I don't know what to do. I have contacted the guy on eBay but he hasn't responded. What to do...

Go to apple, get the phone replaced. Will come with a different IMEI and then you can get it unlocked. Thats what I did 7 months ago and it worked fine for me.

I called apple support earlier today and they said they couldn't do anything and to do what at&t told me to do which was to get ahold of the seller. If I go into the store I might get some actual help?

Don't call Apple, they will also tell you the Verizon iPhone comes locked.

Heres my story-7 months ago I bought an iPhone 6 off ebay. Guy said it was unlocked and paid off. I called AT&T, gave them the IMEI and they told me the phone was purchased 3 weeks ago on AT&T next. I freaked bc this guy could stop paying it or report it stolen so then its a brick.

Went to Apple store, told them what happened and they gave me a brand new phone. I then called AT&T and gave them the IMEI of the new phone, and they said that this phone was not under contract and I was able to get it unlocked the next day.

Your situation is identical to mine.

Thanks for the reply! I guess I will be going to the Apple Store tomorrow morning and will see what happens. This is very frustrating. I hope they give me a new one that would be nice :) I will update tomorrow with the happenings.

So I went to the Apple store and unfortunately got the same runaround. They didn't help me at all. So I called eBay and got the seller's number but of course no dice there. So it's likely that in 24 hours I will be getting my money back.

Did the eBay advertisement advertise that the phone was unlocked, or eligible to be unlocked? If not, and it was advertised as an AT&T iPhone, I don't know why you think you have a leg to stand on.

Okay friend. No, it wasn't advertised as unlocked or or eligible to be unlocked. However, what would you do? Simply throw the phone in the trash? Come on man

You made an assumption that the phone being sold on eBay was unlocked, or eligible to be unlocked for free by the carrier. That assumption was wrong. You should chalk it up as a lesson learned and pay one of the third party services to unlock it rather than try to get your money back from the eBay seller who did nothing wrong.

A couple of the sites I looked at stated wouldn't work unless off contract. Know of any that might work?

You should always buy an unlocked phone if that's what you want. Don't buy a locked phone assuming you can unlock it. Never.

If you do contact the guy, just tell him to pay the phone off so you can get it unlocked. He should be able to pay it with the money you bought the phone for.

To the OP, the eBay seller did not deceive you. They advertised the phone as locked to AT&T. Now if they advertised the phone as unlocked, then you would have a case againist them.

Sell the phone on eBay or Swappa and use the money you get to buy a Verizon iPhone.
