Ive watched the secondary market for tons of product launches and when it looks like this the night before, it does NOT bode well for the scalpers. Unless we get into a long-term shortage pattern like with the Wii, which isn't likely, the scalpers are going to take a bath on this one. Either way, this is certainly not their best-case-scenario. If the delivery estimates on apple.com had moved past 2-3 weeks, it would be different. The people who sold their preorders a few days ago are the ones who made out the best, and their buyers can still possibly pull the plug on them.

Apple did a fantastic job here meeting demand.

Eh... Too early to tell. People can just return stuff anyway so the only thing that is lost is time.

The whole idea of scalping for electronics has really grown into a 1-2 day gig for some and because everyone is trying to do it now, it's only going to make it worse for other scalpers. I remember people were buying $1000+ (as high as $1400) PS3s when they first came out and it was just absurd. Year after year, the margin of profit is just going down and down because more people are purchasing to sell versus to keep. We'll find out Monday on how Apple is doing on meeting the demand, what the sell value is, and if iPads end up getting returned.

I was considering purchasing a second ipad, but after the long window to get the ipad delivered on launch I canceled my second order. I really feel like alot of other posters had mentioned that the tsunami last year created the scarcity we saw last year with ipad 2.

I also ran into this issue with the iphone 4S, I was able to pick one up for about 70 dollars under retail on launch. I listed my online order on craigslist, but did not get any bites that would earn any profit.

Presale # is hard to gauge, apple has never offered presale immediately after an ipad presentation. Most people didn't know or needed more time to decide.
I preordered 2, but the best deals I'm getting are on iPad 2s, still the best tablet out there IMO. It can be jail broken, many have lots of warranty, and prices are nice. I just got a 2 mo old 16gb for $300 and jb it. Just passed on a 32gb 3G ipad2 for $400 cause it was on 5.1 and not jbreakable.
I will keep the 2 til the 3 is jbroken, and will get a 3 online no tax later this year.
One of the 3s I'm getting is sold, not decided on whether to keep the other, sell it, or return it. I decided the life of the 2 is still strong, and with jailbreak is more enjoyable to me than an apple gated locked down 3 with minimal retina apps ready for it. And 4g, just what I need, a faster way to hit my monthly data cap!

Not sure where you are looking but there are many here. Here is an example: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Apple-iPad-...70936467905?pt=US_Tablets&hash=item3f151269c1

Do a search for "ipad 3rd gen" which is how eBay lists it.

Well with 4 feedback ratings a month thats not what I would call a heavy seller. I get 4 every three hours. They are making a $100 profit but its still undervalued. I have links too.

Well, and the money to post the ad.

Well, as long as you did a normal listing (no bold, subtitle, featured listing, etc...), it should set you back $0.50-3.00 max per listing and that's for a Buy it Now. Drop in the bucket.

There are a couple that I've seen where the seller didn't make much. But if you look at the completed auctions for the 64GB LTE iPad, some are selling for $1,500.00-$2,000.00 right now. Try sorting the listings in descending sale amounts.

Looking through the completed sales, most people are making $100-300 profit, some much more. Let's keep in mind that the thing hasn't even been released yet in the US. By this time next week, you will be able to sell these on eBay for way more than this. Especially if you are willing to ship international.

So, this idea that the prices on these are low and dropping, is nonsense. They are good and getting higher and about to skyrocket.

Call it whatever you want, I really don't care. If you go into a business venture expecting to turn a profit, pay people to wait in line for you, pay to use other peoples addresses as shipping points, and spend all your time organizing it only to possibly break even, its a FAILED business venture. I am talking about the professionals who have dozens of these listed on ebay, not mom and pop who may have ordered an extra on preorder day just in case the market exploded. You act like the time loss is trivial, it absolutely isn't.

I'm not talking about "business". I am just talking about selling an extra one or two. I have never given thought to someone actually investing a lot of time and effort into trying to make a profit on these.

Tim Cook did a stellar job of making this the best product launch thus far. By having a huge inventory in Stores & Resellers, Apple was able to capture maximum sales, making customers very happy.

Able to buy whatever model you wanted with little or no wait was brilliant. I bet Apple sold far more than floor activity indicated. When customers get world class service, that makes a great impression.

I was in a store tonight & they've got plenty for tomorrow, in all models. I'm eager to see what the weekend sales are like. If... Apple decides to give us a general overview.

Bottom line, why buy from anyone but Apple when prices are so reasonable.

My coworker walked into a Best Buy tonight and picked up one with no problem.

Also, my iPad shipped from Ontario, CA instead of Shenzen China,

So it seems there's a LOT more stock this time.

The scampers can suck it. I'm sick of those guys.

Well I sold three and made enough to pay for my new iPad and make some money. It does not make me a bad person because I have foresight and can capitalize on it. I didn't abuse the system and try to buy hundreds or even a dozen.

Congrats on being able to sell them. I've been stalking eBay all day and the staple product (16GB, WiFi) has been selling at pretty poor rates. I'm expecting a lot of returns to Apple stores and retailers in the coming week.

eBay gives you some idea but Amazon is really where the volume is these days. The problem you can get the sell through metrics on products. You can get some idea by selling the listings category rating towards the bottom.
