Because they can negatively impact your feedback score, and the difference between a 99.8% positive and 100% positive feedback score when you're selling items is a pretty big deal. A lot of people (rightly or not) won't buy from somebody who has less than 100% feedback.

I understand the hypcracy and how they hold you under the gun. Which is why I choose to elect to NOT give them not only my time but also my money. I refuse to have to nuzzle someone's crotch simply because they're too stupid to breathe.
So I guess in this case the seller is screwed because the buyer is an idiot.

Buyer beware. Of course, I'm not a slave to what someone on ebay has to say about me. I could care less.
So you're saying, if you sell on ebay you have to kiss the rump of the buy? Why bother?

If I were you I would stay away from eBay. Choosing to try to resolve a problem is not just for eBay but for life. Good luck with yours. :p

That's an insane expectation if people expect sellers to maintain a perfect 100% score.

It's very possible that I could buy and receive an item in perfect condition, arrived in a timely manner, and satisfied with the sale. And just because I choose to be a dipwad, I could easily 1-star the seller for no good reason. That alone will erase any perfect 100% rating he may have had.

Your all far too polite. I would of told him exactly what type of moron I think he is. Like pretty much everyone else says this is not the OP's fault. The guy bought a phone and didnt know he needed a sim card ... Really >.>

The first mobile I bought was a Nokia 3310 and was amazing and even then you had to put q sim card in the phone to activate, register and yes use it.

What person buys a phone then gets mad at the seller because they need a sim card. If not so tragic I would laugh but it really sums up the state of humanity.

Also like others said either wait a few days for your new sim, go to a store or cut the old one down... Your problem not the sellers.

Ebay sell - who's to blame?

I don't know about that.
99.9% or 99.8% doesn't mean anything to most.
When you sell lots of stuff you will have complains or negative feedback from people. In life it's not possible to make everyone happy.
If you have hundreds or thousands of positives and only 1 or 2 negative then that's nothing that would hold back anyone from purchasing from you.

I agree.

I don't sell on eBay, but I do buy a lot. I have never not purchased a product because the seller's rating isn't 100%. Typically, for me, 97% or higher is good enough. I always go through the negative (and some of the positive) comments to get a feel for what they are about though. I've never had a single problem.

Oh, but if I look at the negative feedback and find that the seller has responded to it in an unprofessional manner (i.e. being disrespectful in any way), I will not buy from them. I value professionalism even in the worst circumstances.

I'm just not to fond of ignorance or kissing the butt of someone who has no honor. He bought a phone, then complained because he failed to research. Why should you, the seller, suffer for his failure? On ebay it seems, you do.

So yeah, I don't bother with ebay. Far too many scams according to everything you can read. Shame too as it started off with good intentions.

there is nothing you are at fault for here.

figure it in this sense.....you sell a car to a buyer. its exactly as described, and the buyer is perfectly happy with the sale. its friday and he cant register the car until monday so hes upset and blaming you. dumb isnt it?

tell him to chill out and beat feet.

Couldn't of said it any better myself.

You didn't deceive the buyer, he's just being impatient. Tell him to visit his local Sprint store to get a SIM card. Problem solved.

Just to throw this out there...

I have a 100% eBay rating with all positive and one neutral feedback. I sold a brand new Palm Prē that had been used for about 2 days. Seller said it only lasted a month. Never bothered contacting me or I'm assuming Sprint.

I do not know how many transactions I have but there's a 103 next to me name. I'm assuming that's how many transactions with feedback I have.

Why would you sell him your sim card? Tell him it's yours, get his own. He could have drove to carrier store and got one.

That's better than being a seller on Craigslist, who need thick bullet-proof vests.

I heard news twice that supposed "buyers" tried to shoot/mug/rob the sellers of Craigslist items.

I've never had a problem selling items on Craigslist. I always just pick a public place to meet, like a coffee shop or a library.
