Closing checking account is also easy.

Not that easy if you have to go into a branch with anyone else who's also on the account (spouse, etc.), transfer all of your money, order new checks, change direct deposit authorization with your employer and so on. Verses simply calling your CC company.

And if they already got hold of your money the moment the dispute is initiated, it's too late. You can dispute with a CC company as unauthorized and they'll remove it.

This is a paypal policy not eBay. I do plan to call PayPal in this today.

Do let us know what PayPal says. Their policy is not discriminating between ebay and non-ebay purchases and who doesn't take PayPal on ebay? There have been instances where the buyer filed disputes with both ebay and PayPal.

According to paypal they have changed a number of policies. First, yes the did extend the dispute period to 6 months to coincide with the timing already in place with the credit card companies.

Paypal has said that proof of delivery is key now. Once they know the product has been delivered the buyer cannot make a claim for failed delivery later. Its in the seller protection policy.

Proof of delivery also starts the clock on "Not as Advertised", the longer they wait the less likely the claim will be allowed.

They also said the 6 month period is more an effort to keep buyers from disputing at the credit card company. Paypal wants to do its own investigation and once they do and find in the sellers favor any further attempt to dispute at the credit card company would be blocked or covered by Paypal.

I recommend that all sellers call paypal, ask for the dispute department, and ask them to comment. I am probably not explaining this in the best way but I was satisfied at the end of the conversation.

BTW…the dispute always ends up at paypal. Ebay no longer owns them.

That's actually nothing new. Signature confirmation is what protects against item not received dispute. Always been that way and the rep was just rehashing what's long known.

That's actually encouraging. Maybe they won't let buyers off the hook so easily for not as advertised claims anymore, especially after a lengthy wait. Time will tell if that's actually true.

Personally, I think the only valid dispute on the buyer's part past 30 days up to the 6-month mark is if the iPhone gets blacklisted.

Thanks for confirming this with PayPal and reporting back to us.

eBay selling advice

It says he ships within 1 day after listing ends. That's why I'm worried. :-\

You got scammed. Open a dispute

Also eBay has not performed the reverse merger with paypal yet. Won't happen for a few more months.

Also, as of December, eBay and PayPal moved the claims to 6months in hopes to draw in buyers for the holidays. Such a joke though, as described above.

Edit:
Also I just got scammed selling a set of tires on eBay.
Showed both pairs delivered and signed for buy the buyer and a few days later they filed a claim saying they only received one pair. I knew right away it was a scam so I contacted fedex to open a claim (I paid for insurance to cover item and shipping)
Fed ex filed for me and I got 50% back.

So I finally received the package containing an iPhone 6 from my seller (wasn't a scam after all) and for some reason my post office wanted to charge me an additional $330 of customs fees (with the already payed $780 for the phone) and naturally I refused to pay because that would mean I payed the phone over $1100.

And after I refused to accept the package, the post office has now shipped it back to the seller, in the same condition it arrived (brand new and sealed). Contacted the seller straight away and he said I can return the item, but a couple of days later (after the package has already been sent back to him) he says that he does not accept returns and that I should contact my post office an recollect the item.

My question is now, will the seller have to pay any shipping or customs fees upon receiveing the rejected package? And is he obligated to issue a full refund to me (his listing doesn't indicate anything about returns). I've never had this issue before, so any advice on opening a case (when to do it and how to do it) would be helpful. Keep in mind that I'm located in Europe and he's in USA.

Thank you.

Hi guys,

I'm looking to sell my iPhone 5s on eBay in the coming weeks. I live in the UK. Does anyone have any advice?

I know that eBay generally sides with the buyer from why I understand so what precautions can I take to ensure that everything goes well with the sale?

Or does anyone else know any other sites that I can sell the device in the UK? Maybe gumtree?

No issues here, I've sold the last 3 iPhone's without a hitch. I do however have strict buyer requirements so when it sells, I know it's actually sold, I'll get the money and the buyer is legitimate. No messing about.

If he received the package back, he's obligated to refund you regardless of whether he lists "No returns accepted." The US do not charge customs fees.

You can file a dispute, although you should have done your research and known about the customs fees. This is one of the reasons why sellers refrain from selling on ebay internationally.

If you are new to eBay I would sell the iPhone somewhere else as a iPhone will bring out the very nuts at eBay.

To be fair, Craigslist has a bunch of nuts (if not more than eBay), but yes, I do notice that novice sellers sometimes fare badly if they don't know what to do. That's why you need to do research before selling on ebay.

A newbie on eBay selling an iPhone is asking for it. iPhones always bring out the nuts but you can atleast hold the money in you hand at CList.

I agree with you that iPhones brings out the worst of our species!

All that said, the last couple of phones we have sold I just opted for craigslist (unsure if the OP has something similar in the UK) because I was able to get about what I would have gotten via ebay (minus fees) and iPhones move fast.

I ALWAYS meet at a carrier store, zero exceptions.
Do you actually go into the store and do the transaction there? Do the reps care if you do? Do you use one of those pens to determine if the bills are legit?

Which carrier?

You mean a spin-off?

And some of them carry guns.

With all of the fees on eBay, I try to sell old phones on Craigslist. There are some things that are easier to sell on eBay though, since it has way bigger audience. If you go the Craigslist route, only meet in a public place and do cash only.

I am on AT&T.

I have gone into the AT&T stores and have never been given any hassles. I have been to four stores now, two in MA and two in NH.

I do have a pen that also has a UV lite on it (for those who are too lay to look at the bill in the light for the hologram), though the lite is unnecessary IMO - difference in price was a buck so I figured I may as well; do note that there are some good fakes that will check "legit" with just the pen, so make sure you are inspecting the bills further.

When I sold an unlocked 5S gold when those launched and were popular (bought for wife bt she decided she didn't want it at the time) I had the guy meet me in the mall if he wanted to confirm (it was a Verizon device bought from an Apple store in same mall). He paid in $100 bills and I asked if he minded me putting it in the ATM then and there. He had no issues. I deposited the money. He took the phone (I provided him the original receipt too) and he was on his way, as was I.

Your mileage may vary. Here in the Boston metro area there are bank of America's on every corner, and Verizon and AT&T stores on every other corner. If anyone has a problem meeting me at any of those places I just move on immediately. Not like these things are hard to sell. :)
