Posted this in iPhone forum, but figured it'd be worth a try here too.

iBooks is fine on the iPad but, due to the amount of screen real estate wasted, is utterly woeful on the iPhone. A fine example of Apple at their worst, style absolutely over content - do we REALLY need all that margin space either side, page number and the name of the book you're reading permanently displayed on such a small screen? Of course not.

Stanza is great on the iPhone but doesn't sync furthest read/current place automatically between iPad/iPhone so I've grudgingly used iBooks on my iPhone for ages now. Are there any third party ebook reader that do this? I'm willingly to pay for the privilege dagnabbit!

Oh yeah, forgot about the Kindle app, thanks. Unfortunately, I seem to remember the place syncing only works with books bought in the Kindle store, and nearly all my books have been purchased elsewhere.

Thread resurrection!!!

Err, what I said in my original post really. Don't expect anyone to answer in the positive but it's worth a punt, not paid much attention to the app scene in the last few months.

It's me again, and I'm still looking!

I notice Tomes (formerly Bookshelf) can sync positions between idevices using a @me.com account. Unfortunately it's an awful, buggy piece of ****, but Im hoping, with iCloud now up and running, some other ebook app may follow suit. Anyone know of any already?

To reiterate, the Kindle app does not do what I'm looking for, nor does Stanza (seemingly now dead).

An email from Amazon:

As a past user of the Kindle Personal Documents Service, we are pleased to let you know about some improvements....Whispersync automatically synchronizes your last page read, bookmarks and annotations for your documents (with the exception of PDFs) across devices.

We expect to extend these features to Kindle Fire and Kindle apps (such as Kindle Cloud Reader, Kindle for Android, Kindle for iPhone, Kindle for PC, and Kindle for Mac) in the coming months.

Interesting, but does it sync books that haven't been bought via the Kindle book store? It didn't last time I tried.

That's what personal documents are, so yes. It won't do much good until the ipad app is updated though.
