I know everything we can do is speculate, but I am glad there is another thread on this because I purchased the watch with the idea of having the ECG functionality. I am truly hoping that it comes this year. I do quick google searches for it and nothing has been mentioned in the last couple of weeks on whether and when it will be released.

I've got Tim on the line and I will ask him. o_O

Ha ha, you should quit your day job and be a comedian full time!!!

There are multiple rumor sites that somebody could have read but I hadn't, Apple could have announced it in the recent keynote that I missed, or even DeNachtwacht's post above was quite helpful (that Apple still has coming this year on their watch page). All very helpful responses. :)

As a former Mazda owner I know how long a diesel CX-5 has been coming soon. Sometimes those words mean hours, sometimes days, sometimes weeks, sometimes months, sometimes yaars, sometimes never.

Off topic, but never new Mazda was coming out with a diesel. We've really enjoyed our diesel SUVs...with the Jeep Grand Cherokee our favorite.

I had the AW3 and purchased the AW4 for the sole reason that the ECG feature is coming later this year. I take high blood pressure medication and having this feature on my watch would be a plus. But if Apple is bull ******** us I can assure you I will take legal action at whatever cost. $749.00 I paid for the SS model

Are you in the US? The US still has a very high chance to see it this year I figure, unless a major f_ up happens.

Maybe never? Just like AirPower. One can’t trust Apple anymore.

Not quite the same. AirPower was an issue of Apple being overly confident in announcing a product that was not yet working when they hadn't solved some of the physics involved (overheating). A product with the type of coils the Airpower needs didn't' and doesn't exist because of those issues.

ECG on your wrist is already a working technology. There is another company doing something similar (Kardiaband, you can buy it now if you want), and Apple would not have been able to get FDA to sign off with de novo classification if there were not working prototypes.

AirPower was/is an accessory, ECG is a major feature being marketed for the watch. Apple would face huge repercussions if they fail to bring it to market. Failing to bring an accessory to market...not so much.

Apples and Oranges...no pun intended.

That's true, but Tim Cook did specifically say during the most recent earnings call, in plain English, that it's coming this year. That isn't a guarantee, but it's very clear and from the very top.

Interesting tidbit. I didn't know he said that. Not only is that very clear coming from the top, but companies get into a lot of trouble if they mislead shareholders in such situations. Cook would have to be as certain as he could be in order to say that then.

Yes. This is not a case of vapor[hare]ware, like the AirPower mat. The hardware has been sold to people. And the promises about delivery were not just vague statements at a sales event, they were made by Tim on an earnings call. If they miss, it's going to be a really BFD. If Apple misses, they _will_ get sued and they _will_ lose.

Its not just the taking of the ECG its the interpretation and being able to forward it to a medical professional.

Its a problem similar to rolling out apple pay but with a higher threat of litigation.

AliveCor seems to have managed. ;)

It’s coming when AirPower comes

*snickers*

I know what you mean, but it's not the same. AirPower was sales talk for vaporware. Nothing was ever sold. ECG has been promised twice with specific deadlines for an existing product that's in the retail channel.

Guess you were wrong about that, eh? ;)

So sounds like we may just be a week or two from ECG now...although I haven't paid attention to which release the watch beta is on. It seems like in the past it has taken 3-5 releases before they roll it out.
In a memo to employees, Verizon announced Duel eSIM support for "early December" to coincide with the expected iOS 12.1.1 update. watchOS 5.1.2 could be released at that time as well.
