Echo and Spotlight iMessage Effects on iPhone 6

My wife just updated her 6 to iOS 11. I have a 7 and when I send her a message with the echo or spotlight effect it doesn't work. It just says "Sent with Echo" or "Sent with Spotlight." Anyone else seen this?
