Why does Apple Home report occupancy detected from Ecobee Smart Thermostat Enhanced when no one is in the lower level of my home where this thermostat and smart sensor are located? The thermostat is not in heating mode. I wanted to use the Occupancy sensor of this thermostat in automations but can’t if it’s going to report occupancy when no one is actually in the room. Ideas?

Oddly enough I just removed/deleted mine this morning. I had 3 of them active for the last 3 years and I find the exact same thing you have. They are worthless and don't work.

I've gone through all the settings countless times thinking I am doing something wrong and I have come to the conclusion the sensors suck and my Ecobee Premium needs software updates to fix issues.

These aren’t the same type of occupancy/presence sensors like you see around today with mmWave technology, that can instantly detect if someone is in the room and stays in there. From what I understand, and if I recall correctly, these are basically motion sensors with a 30 minute cool down to mimic presence without shutting down too soon. So if you walk in the room with one of these sensors, it starts a 30 minute countdown and assumes you’ll stay in there, where it will keep the timer going if it senses you moving and if it doesn’t, it turns off. Very basic stuff and these sensors are not cheap either.
