Have two Ecobees in my home and I hate them. I'm switching back to Nest soon. So many problems:
- Set a temp and it ignores you
- Set a temp again and it sets it, but then at some point randomly it will change it back
- Can't schedule temps and ranges
- Can't set a temp to keep through the night as it ALWAYS ends at 6:30... but I wanted it to be warm in the morning when we're trying to get the kids ready for school
- Trying to change temp at night from bed and it WILL NOT. Says connection error. Even though everything is obviously responding. Then try through HomeKit and it works... so it just refuses to change through Ecobee app. But sometimes it won't connect to HomeKit either and I have to walk to the thermostat
- Tries to "save energy" by mandating Eco mode... but sometimes I need to change the temp anyway (guests around, etc)... says I can't. I can turn it off for the day, but it errors as it won't let me.

Basically, someone at Ecobee thinks we're all stupid and only them and the device should mandate all of our settings. Well screw them, I'm going back to Nest and telling everyone to stay away.

^ I would encourage you to have a look at the instructions, because all of these problems (other than connection error) are ones that can be addressed through correct usage/interaction. If they can't then you have a seriously defective unit.

- Set temp - make sure you choose to hold indefinitely, not 2 or 4 hours (these are options)
- randomly changes back - this is happening either because you chose to hold only for a period of time or you reached the next schedule point, when it changes to the scheduled temperature
- not sure what you mean by ranges, but you can schedule either online or using the 'stat. You can choose specific temperatures for home/away/sleep
- You can set a temp for sleep, and it will hold it. You can choose when to have it warm up in the morning. If you use smart recovery it will start heating before that set time so that your house will be that temperature at the set time.
- don't know about connection errors, but both the stat and the app have worked for me except when there are (rare) system outages
- you can cancel out of eco-mode. You can also deactivate that in the app and on the 'stat.

I would also encourage you to use it as a programmable 'stat. Set the schedule you want and let it go. Yes, sometimes you need to adjust and do that, but it sounds like you're fighting with it a bit and using it like a manual thermostat to override sometimes the programming.
