I have ecobee 4 and wasn't planning to use it, but i wanted to at least test it out, but I guess 4 is not supported; oh well. Like others have said, the odds of Ecobee responding when you have homepod 2 meters away are are slim to none.

I have had Nest thermostats for years at home and in my office and I would miss them if I changed. Always being uncomfortable, Nest deciding what temperature my home and office should be, random swings in temperature, the ability to lose network connection making me have to walk over to thermostat to adjust and scream is really the only exercise I get.

I had an Ecobee 3 at my old house and loved it. I bought the 2 new Voice Control versions for my new house because they announced this feature. Looking forward to it!

Dammit.

Not only do I already have 2 HomePod minis, but one of those happens to be mounted directly above the thermostat on the same wall.

The problem? I have the ecobee4. Ah well, I'm not entitled to it, just bummed. I hope it is a hardware limitation and not ecobee nickel and diming.

Just installed the SmartThermostat with voice control this past week and have been using with Alexa. Actually used it for some background jazz music while we enjoyed our Canadian 🇨🇦Thanksgiving dinner 🦃 Looking forward to having more options.

How odd that a Canadian company like Ecobee does not make its thermostat compatible with high voltage baseboard heaters which are present in many a home.
Mysa took care of that but as of iOS15, Siri can not tell the temperature from the thermostat.

Siri could always do that. The new feature is that the thermostat itself will now be capable of listening for your “hey Siri” and then routing your command over WiFi to a HomePod that executes it.
Got it. Thank you!

So I missed the bit about needing a HomePod - rats! Just wondering - why can't the thermostat relay the Siri request to a nearby Mac instead of a HomePod (which I am not likely to ever get)?

It's the implementation Apple decided on with iOS15. See "Siri-Enabled Third-Party Accessories"

It's stupid in my opinion, but perhaps there are technical limitations I don't understand. You know, technical limitations that 3rd parties have not had to deal with for Alexa and Google integration. Just another frustration for Apple users with no obvious reason. Users will get frustrated with the 3rd party for "requiring" this, then 3rd parties will just give up because it's not worth the hassle they didn't create. Siri 3rd party integration will get less support than HomeKit.

This is awesome, as there is a room that has a thermostat in it, but doesn't have a HomePod. I'd like to be able to Intercom this room, so perfect!

Apologies for sidetracking but it seems I found a whole thread of Ecobee users lol. Anyone else not getting push notifications for high/low temp/humidity? They rolled out the feature maybe a year or two ago but it only worked for me for a few months in that time. Support is useless. Thanks.

Mine came with 1 room sensor, just wondering about adding more more and how that would benefit me?
I keep them in the most commonly used rooms. So during the day the temperature the thermostat uses comes from the living room sensor. During the night it uses the bedroom sensor. It allows you to be more comfortable by basing using the temperature on the room you're actually in, rather in a hallway or somewhere else.

Sounds like something I could use. With the home office I am in the den area most of the day, evenings in the living room and the master bedroom at night. I found I had to change the thermostat today (up a few degrees) so this would probably benefit me. Thanks for the insight 🙏

I have the SmartThermostat. I’ve always high humidity and change filter notifications via email. Are we supposed to get it via push?

Absolutely! I used to get only email, then they switched to push notifications. I got them working for a few months and then stopped with one of the updates. Don’t remember which one. I don’t know how they’re having such a hard time with this. Push notifications are a staple of smartphones and they’ve been around for a while. How do you screw them ip late in 2021 lol.
Here’s the first version that introduced it, straight from the App Store, that outlines it. Subsequent versions also mention push notifications.

I'd bet dad's all over 'Merica are going, "Oh, hail no!"😖

I ain't allowing that in my house. It's bad enough when the kids can physically adjust the thermostats. Letting them do that from anywhere in the house? Oh, hail no.😠

I bought the 3 Lite specifically because it didn't have Alexa turned on by default. I just got it hooked back up this morning, so we'll see if there's anything new by the time I get home.
Sorry, the 3 Lite doesn’t have a microphone, so it can’t support “Hey Siri”.

Yet it can't control the variable fan speed of my furnace... It's still on, or, off. I am still using the furnace makers "smart" thermostat that has Google and Alexa built in... I don't use those.

I don't know of any thermostats that aren't part of a proprietary system involving communicating thermostats that will control the speed of the fan, other than on or off. My furnace also has a variable speed blower, however the ecobee has a setting that will allow the HVAC system to control the fan speed. Generally this is the best choice when using something like an ecobee or nest in systems with variable speed fans. Assuming you're not using a communicating system, are you sure this isn't the way your system is already working with the existing thermostat? Generally fan speed behavior that's controlled by the HVAC can be adjusted with dip switches on the furnace control board.

So how do we download this free update? Is it automatic or does the thermostat and/or app provide details? Haven’t seen anything yet…
