I have ecobee 4 and wasn't planning to use it, but i wanted to at least test it out, but I guess 4 is not supported; oh well. Like others have said, the odds of Ecobee responding when you have homepod 2 meters away are are slim to none.
Got it. Thank you!Siri could always do that. The new feature is that the thermostat itself will now be capable of listening for your “hey Siri” and then routing your command over WiFi to a HomePod that executes it.
So I missed the bit about needing a HomePod - rats! Just wondering - why can't the thermostat relay the Siri request to a nearby Mac instead of a HomePod (which I am not likely to ever get)?
It's the implementation Apple decided on with iOS15. See "Siri-Enabled Third-Party Accessories"Dammit.
Not only do I already have 2 HomePod minis, but one of those happens to be mounted directly above the thermostat on the same wall.
The problem? I have the ecobee4. Ah well, I'm not entitled to it, just bummed. I hope it is a hardware limitation and not ecobee nickel and diming.
Yes, but now you can use Siri within the thermostat itself. So you can move the HomePod to another room if you'd like.Actually works, just tried this with my homepod: "Hey Siri, set the temperature to 72 degrees". (A/C just went on).
Absolutely. The room sensors set it apart from everything else.Is this the best HomeKit thermostat currently available?
Mine came with 1 room sensor, just wondering about adding more more and how that would benefit me?Absolutely. The room sensors set it apart from everything else.
I keep them in the most commonly used rooms. So during the day the temperature the thermostat uses comes from the living room sensor. During the night it uses the bedroom sensor. It allows you to be more comfortable by basing using the temperature on the room you're actually in, rather in a hallway or somewhere else.Mine came with 1 room sensor, just wondering about adding more more and how that would benefit me?
Sounds like something I could use. With the home office I am in the den area most of the day, evenings in the living room and the master bedroom at night. I found I had to change the thermostat today (up a few degrees) so this would probably benefit me. Thanks for the insight 🙏I keep them in the most commonly used rooms. Apologies for sidetracking but it seems I found a whole thread of Ecobee users lol. Anyone else not getting push notifications for high/low temp/humidity? They rolled out the feature maybe a year or two ago but it only worked for me for a few months in that time. Support is useless. Thanks.
Absolutely! I used to get only email, then they switched to push notifications. I got them working for a few months and then stopped with one of the updates. Don’t remember which one. I don’t know how they’re having such a hard time with this. Push notifications are a staple of smartphones and they’ve been around for a while. How do you screw them ip late in 2021 lol.I have the SmartThermostat. I’ve always high humidity and change filter notifications via email. Are we supposed to get it via push?
They should be. That's the model I have and they have Alexa built in.
Sorry, the 3 Lite doesn’t have a microphone, so it can’t support “Hey Siri”.I bought the 3 Lite specifically because it didn't have Alexa turned on by default. I just got it hooked back up this morning, so we'll see if there's anything new by the time I get home.
I don't know of any thermostats that aren't part of a proprietary system involving communicating thermostats that will control the speed of the fan, other than on or off. My furnace also has a variable speed blower, however the ecobee has a setting that will allow the HVAC system to control the fan speed. Generally this is the best choice when using something like an ecobee or nest in systems with variable speed fans. Assuming you're not using a communicating system, are you sure this isn't the way your system is already working with the existing thermostat? Generally fan speed behavior that's controlled by the HVAC can be adjusted with dip switches on the furnace control board.Yet it can't control the variable fan speed of my furnace... It's still on, or, off. I am still using the furnace makers "smart" thermostat that has Google and Alexa built in... I don't use those.
