I need to do an ecommerce site for a client. Can anyone point me in the right direction to do some research and learn how to do it.

Hire someone who has done it before :) and take 20% off the top :)

oscommerce is the best. creLoaded and ZenCArt are also popular. Joomla/Virtuemart is also an option.

Great advice. Ecommerce sites are challenging, especially if you've never done one before

    CubeCART

Agreed, unless you use CubeCART, which has a much lower learning curve and loads of tools and addons from sites like cc3.biz

CC3 is not free and all in all not the cheapest, but it will get the job done by tea-time and if it's the only one you'll be doing why stretch it?

Looking at the developers showcase there are a number of half decent stores made using it.

Agreed it is not Agorra/osC/Zen (the other cPanel/Fantastico favourites) but for completeness it does need a mention.

Actinic has a number of solutions as well all of which have merits and demerits.

My ar@e-about-face process is to look at what payment method the customer wants and build using the one that fits the best..:D

But then again I'm a klutz!
